The Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) bus services in Chennai are facing major changes due to ongoing metro rail construction. Starting from February 9, a total of 63 buses running on seven different routes will be rerouted from the Villivakkam bus terminus to the ICF bus terminus. This change will affect many daily commuters who depend on these bus services for their travel needs.

Changes in Bus Routes
The rerouting will impact several important bus routes. Buses like 20 (Broadway-Villivakkam), 27D (Foreshore Estate-Villivakkam), and 23V (Velachery-Villivakkam) will now take a different route. They will move through New Avadi Road towards Nathamuni before reaching their usual stops at the Villivakkam (Kalpana) bus terminus. Due to these changes, commuters may experience longer travel times and possible delays.
However, smaller buses operating on routes S43 (Pudur-Velachery) and S44 (Perambur-Villivakkam) will continue to run from Villivakkam to help passengers. Also, the route 22 (Anna Square-Villivakkam) has been extended to reach Korattur, while route 63 will now operate between Thiruverkadu and ICF. These adjustments may help some commuters even as others face disruptions.
Power Outages Due to Maintenance
Apart from bus route changes, Chennai residents should also prepare for planned power outages due to maintenance work by the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO). On Saturday, February 8, power will be cut from 9 AM to 2 PM in the Mogappair area. Areas like Ambethkar Nagar and Church Road will be affected. TANGEDCO has assured that power will be restored earlier if the work is completed on time.
Additionally, a power cut is scheduled for Friday in several areas, including Nolambur, S P Garden, V G N Monte Carlo, and SRR Nagar. Other affected locations include TNHB plots in Ayyapakkam and places in Kavanur like Sirukalathur and Malayambakkam. TANGEDCO is asking residents to plan for these outages as they are part of efforts to improve the electricity supply in the long run.
Preparing for the Changes
With metro construction causing changes in MTC bus routes and scheduled power cuts in various areas, Chennai residents will need to adjust their plans. Commuters should be prepared for travel delays, and residents should make arrangements for the temporary power interruptions.
