On the occasion of the Tamil New Year, metro train services in Chennai will follow a Sunday timetable for the day to suit the holiday schedule and passenger demand.

Chennai Metro's Updated Timings for 14 April
• According to the official update, metro trains will run from 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. throughout the day. The frequency of trains will vary depending on the time, with more frequent services during busy hours and slightly longer gaps during less crowded periods.
• During peak hours between 12:00 noon and 8:00 p.m., trains will arrive every 7 minutes. This shorter waiting time is made to handle the higher number of passengers expected during the daytime, as many people travel for celebrations, shopping, or visiting family and friends during the festival.
• In the non-peak hours, from 5:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon and again from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., trains will run every 10 minutes. This schedule balances convenience with lower passenger demand during these times of the day.
• For the late-night period, between 10:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m., which is considered extended non-peak hours, metro services will operate at a frequency of 15 minutes. This indicates passengers may have to wait slightly longer, as fewer people are expected to travel late at night.
Moreover, the Sunday timetable ensures that metro services remain available and efficient while adjusting to the holiday crowd. Passengers are advised to plan their journeys accordingly, considering the different train frequencies throughout the day.
