Chennai Metro to Get Book Park with 70 Shelves, Cafeteria and Kids’ Section

Chennai is all set to welcome a special and permanent space for book lovers right inside the busy Chennai Central metro station. On April 23, a brand-new book park will be opened to the public. This new facility is designed to encourage people to read more by offering books from over 50 publishers and sellers. The idea is to create a peaceful and inviting space for commuters to enjoy books during their daily travel.

Chennai Metro to Get Book Park

A Reading Space Inside the Metro

The book park will cover a 5,000 sqft area and include 70 bookshelves, reading tables with cozy seating, and even a small event hall. There will also be a cafeteria, so visitors can relax with a book and enjoy a cup of coffee or snack. This book park will offer more than just a place to read-it will create an experience.

Officials from the school education department are excited about this plan. They hope that by placing the book park in a busy metro station-used by almost three lakh people daily-they can help more people develop the habit of reading.

Books to Buy and Read with a Discount

Passengers can not only read the books at the park but also buy them. All books will be available at a 10% discount. The idea is to make books more visible and affordable for everyone. Department officials believe this will help reading become more popular among both adults and children.

Publishers, Sellers, and Focus on Children

Many famous publishers and sellers will be part of the book park. These include well-known names like Penguin, HarperCollins, and Tamil publishers. Popular bookstores like Higginbotham's will also take part. Special attention will be given to children's books and comics. The goal is to get young readers interested in books from an early age.

Events and Literary Gatherings

The mini hall inside the book park will host regular literary events. These events will include book launches, reading sessions, and other fun book-related activities. This will not only attract book lovers but also add to the cultural life of Chennai.

Future Plans for More Book Parks and Kiosks

The Tamil Nadu Textbook and Educational Services Corporation will manage the book park. A revenue-sharing model will be used to run it. If this project is successful, similar book parks may be built in other metro stations and public places. Also, 10 to 15 book kiosks are planned across Tamil Nadu to spread textbooks and other books to more people.

The new book park at Chennai Central metro station is a big step to bring reading closer to people's everyday lives. With a peaceful space, wide range of books, and regular literary events, the park is sure to become a favorite place for readers in the city.
