The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) is planning to improve security at Metro stations by installing special frisking booths for women at existing Corridor 1& 2 stations across the city.

Chennai Metro's Tender Process
CMRL has invited companies to participate in the tender process to supply, install, and manage these ladies frisking booths at Phase 1 and extension Metro stations. According to a CMRL official, the tender has recently been released, and installation work will begin after the bidding process is completed. The official also said that similar booths may be installed at Phase 2 stations later if needed.
Chennai Metro's Steps to Improve Security
Apart from improving security, CMRL is also taking steps to reduce crowding at Metro stations during busy hours. To help passengers exit stations more easily, additional automatic fare collection (AFC) gates have been installed at the concourse level of existing stations. These extra gates are expected to reduce waiting time and improve passenger movement, especially during peak travel hours.
CMRL has also added more escalators at several Metro stations to improve convenience for commuters. These new facilities are being introduced based on passenger requirements and feedback. Officials said that CMRL has been regularly upgrading facilities at Metro stations to provide a better travel experience for passengers. They added that if there is demand in the future, similar amenities and facilities may also be introduced at upcoming Phase 2 Metro stations.
The move is expected to improve both passenger safety and convenience for the growing number of Metro users in Chennai.
