Indian Railways is arranging special train services between Chennai and Kollam to help people travel easily during the Mahashivaratri festival, to manage the larger number of travellers expected during the festival days, and ensure smoother journeys across the busy route.

Special Train from Chennai Central
One of the special trains, with train number 06113, will depart from Chennai Central late at night on February 13 at 11:55 p.m. and travel toward Kollam, passing through major stations including Salem, Erode, Tirupur, and Podanur. After reaching Kollam, the return train number 06114 will leave Kollam station on February 16 at 6:30 p.m. and head back to Chennai. This special return service gives passengers flexibility in travel plans before and after the festival.
How Will These Special Trains Benefit Commuters?
Special trains like these are often run by Indian Railways during major festivals such as Mahashivaratri to handle an increase in the number of people travelling by train. Many devotees visit temples and religious sites during this time, leading to a rise in demand for railway tickets.
By adding these extra services for a limited period, the railways aim to reduce crowding on regular trains, offer more seats, and make travel easier for devotees and other passengers. Special trains usually stop at important stations along the route and are timed so travellers can reach their destinations conveniently.
Tickets for these special services are available through official railway booking channels, and people planning to travel during this period are advised to reserve their seats in advance.
