Chennai Airport has now become the second airport in India to introduce the pocket-friendly UDAN Yatri Cafe. The new cafe was inaugurated today by Union Minister for Civil Aviation, Shri Ram Mohan Naidu. The first UDAN Yatri Cafe was launched at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata on December 19, 2024. This initiative has been well received by travelers, leading to its expansion to other airports across the country.

Affordable and Hygienic Refreshments for Travelers
The newly opened UDAN Yatri Cafe at Chennai Airport is located in the pre-check area of the T1 domestic terminal. This allows all passengers, including those who are waiting for their flights or picking up travelers, to access affordable and hygienic refreshments. The cafe offers essential food items at budget-friendly prices:
- Water Bottle: Rs. 10
- Tea: Rs. 10
- Coffee: Rs. 20
- Samosa: Rs. 20
- Sweet of the Day: Rs. 20
Speaking at the inauguration, Shri Ram Mohan Naidu highlighted that the cafe is part of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi's vision of making air travel more accessible and affordable. He also mentioned that after the success of the first UDAN Yatri Cafe in Kolkata, passengers requested the same service at other airports. With Chennai Airport being one of the oldest and busiest in India, serving over 22 million passengers annually, the launch of this cafe is expected to enhance passenger convenience.
Ongoing Developments at Chennai Airport
During the event, the Minister shared details about several ongoing projects aimed at improving the airport's infrastructure and services. The Terminal 2 expansion, covering an area of 86,135 sq.m., is underway to improve international flight operations. Terminals 1 and 4 are also being refurbished with an investment of over Rs. 75 crore.
Additionally, a new traffic flow management system, costing Rs. 19 crore, is being implemented to reduce congestion outside the airport. To improve passenger experience, Chennai Airport is also introducing digital services such as the Digi Yatra and Trusted Traveler Program E-gates, ensuring smooth and hassle-free travel.
Passenger-Friendly Facilities and Sustainability Initiatives
Chennai International Airport continues to focus on passenger comfort with free buggy services for senior citizens and pregnant women, childcare rooms, medical facilities, and modern lounges. The Minister also highlighted the airport's commitment to sustainability, stating that it operates entirely on green energy. A 1.5 MW solar power plant has been installed as part of its eco-friendly initiatives.
