DMRC Expands Central Secretariat to a Triple Interchange with Yellow, Violet and Magenta Lines in Delhi

Delhi commuters have received good news: the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) plans to upgrade Central Secretariat Metro Station into a triple interchange station under the upcoming Phase V(A) expansion of the Delhi Metro, and it is expected to improve travel for thousands of daily passengers.

Central Secretariat Connects Yellow & Violet Line

Currently, Central Secretariat connects the Yellow Line and the Violet Line, making it an important station in Central Delhi. Many government employees and office-goers use this station every day to reach ministries and other government buildings. With the approval of Phase V(A), the station will also link the Magenta Line extension, turning it into one of the most important hubs in the Metro network.

Magenta Line Extension

The Magenta Line extension will run through the Central Vista Corridor, from R.K. Ashram Marg to Indraprastha. This new connection will give direct Metro access to all Kartavya Bhawans, making travel easier for office staff, officials, and visitors. People visiting the Central Vista area will no longer need multiple transfers or road transport.

How Will this Interchange Benefit Commuters?

DMRC estimates that around 60,000 office-goers and nearly two lakh visitors will benefit from this new triple interchange every day. The improved connectivity will help reduce travel time, ease traffic on roads, cut down pollution, and lower the use of private vehicles, making daily commuting smoother and more eco-friendly.

A triple interchange station allows passengers to change between three Metro lines at one place, saving time and effort. Once the Central Secretariat becomes a triple interchange, commuters will be able to travel easily between North, Central, and South Delhi without leaving the station.

Delhi Metro's Total Interchange Stations

At present, the Delhi Metro has 29 interchange stations. After Phase IV, this number will increase to 43, and with Phase V(A), it will rise further to 46. Other triple interchange stations include New Delhi and Kashmere Gate, while Azadpur, Lajpat Nagar, and Inderlok will also gain similar connectivity in future phases. This upgrade will make Delhi's Metro system more efficient and commuter-friendly.
