Free Bus Ride In Bangalore On Independence Day: Here's How BMTC Is Celebrating Its 25th Anniversary

Bangalore: To mark BMTC's 25th anniversary and India's 75th Independence Day, the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) on 10 August announced that people of all ages can take a free ride in ordinary BMTC buses on 15 August 2022.

BMTC Corporation Chairman Nandish Reddy held a press conference regarding the initiative on Thursday and said, "On Monday morning, August 15, Chief Minister Basavaraja Bommai will give the green signal for the first movement of 300 new electric vehicles of BMTC. Also, people of all ages and walks of life can avail a free ride in ordinary BMTC buses."

A proposal was presented to the government to offer free bus service to the passengers in the background of Amrita Mahotsava. The government agreed to this proposal. However, the Karnataka Government is ready to bear a loss of around Rs. 3 Crores to mark BMTC's 25th anniversary and India's 75th Independence Day.

"The events planned will cover various aspects like celebrating the contributions made by India's freedom fighters, BMTC's evolution in the last 25 years, its cultural heritage, and remembering those who contributed in the last 25 years," said BMTC Corporation Chairman Nandish Reddy in a press meet.
