A key infrastructure project connecting Chennai and Bangalore, the Chennai-Bangalore Expressway would cross three South Indian states. It is a greenfield expressway that will be constructed soon, along with other world-class expressways, by the Indian government. It is to note that as part of the Bharatmala Pariyojana program, the Chennai-Bangalore Motorway is being built.

This is a broad plan for India's highway industries that aims to maximize the effectiveness of freight and passenger transportation throughout the nation. The construction of the Chennai-Bangalore motorway will drastically cut travel and promote the state's steady growth.

As mentioned above that the Bharatmala Pariyojana program is currently being used to create this greenfield project, which was initially announced in 2011. On May 26, 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi placed the structure's foundation stone. In South India, the Chennai-Bangalore Expressway is a big project and it is important to note that the National Highway Authority of India is building an expressway in the Southern states for the first time.

Nitin Gadkari twitted about the development of the Bangalore-Malur stretch of the Bangalore-Chennai Expressway "Under the Bharatmala Pariyojana, we are developing the Bangalore-Malur section of the Bangalore-Chennai Expressway in the state of Karnataka, with an estimated cost of ₹1160 Cr.

This ambitious project aims to connect the capital cities of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu while traversing through three states: Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu. The major towns along the route include Hoskote, Malur, Bangarpet, Kolar, Venkatagiri, Palamaneer, Bangarupalem, Chitoor, Ranipettai, and Sriperumbudur.

One of the standout features of the Expressway is the implementation of a perpetual flexible pavement design. This design comprises a three-layer, flexible pavement construction concept that results in a resilient asphalt surface with multiple layers, capable of withstanding structural fatigue over an extended period. This approach enhances the Expressway's durability, strength, and overall longevity.

Under the leadership of PM Shri @narendramodi Ji, we are committed to achieving a seamless, hassle-free, and ecologically responsible mobility system across the nation."

The expressway consists of a 262-kilometer stretch between Hoskote, near Bengaluru, and Sriperumbudur, near Chennai, as well as a 22.6-kilometer elevated route that connects the two cities. It is intended to cut the distance between Bengaluru and Chennai travel times from a total of six hours to just 2.15 hours by traveling at a speed of 120 km/h. Additionally, it is around 50 km shorter than the current national highway route that runs through Hosur and Krishnagiri to connect Bengaluru with Chennai.

Just months before accepting bids for road construction, the expressway had been reduced from its original eight lanes to four lanes. The alternate National Highway that now connects the states and traffic volume were considered when the decision was made.

According to reports, the 326-km Chennai-Bengaluru bypass road carries more than 75 thousand vehicles daily and is at capacity. The eight-lane motorway was suggested while taking into account the increasing industrial demand for the length and the necessity for better connectivity for end-to-end travelers.
