Overview of the Orange Line

The entire Orange Line of the metro, stretching from AIIMS to Karond, spans 14.99 km. This route is expected to greatly enhance transportation within Bhopal, offering a faster and more efficient travel option for both residents and visitors.

Current Status of the Metro Work

The priority corridor, which includes stations from Subhash Nagar to AIIMS, RKMP, Subhash Nagar, and Kendriya School near DB Mall and MP Nagar, is now 90 percent complete. Meanwhile, other stations such as DRM Chauraha, AIIMS, and Alkapuri are approximately 60 percent complete. The construction of these stations covers a large area to accommodate numerous facilities like shops, food plazas, and ATMs, which are expected to generate significant revenue.

Arrival of Metro Coaches

In preparation for the metro's launch, five metro trains have arrived in Bhopal from Vadodara, Gujarat. Along with these trains, 15 coaches were delivered to the city on six large trolleys, signaling another crucial step toward completing the metro project.

Second Phase of the Metro Project

The metro authorities are gearing up to start work on the second phase of the project in June and July. This phase involves constructing an 8.77 km line between Subhash Nagar and Karond, with an estimated cost of Rs 1,540 crore. Of this route, 3.39 km will be underground, featuring two underground stations: Bhopal Railway Station and Nadra Bus Stand. These tunnels will connect through Sindhi Colony and Aishbagh Crossing. Additionally, six elevated stations will be built above ground, including Pul Bogda, Aishbagh, Sindhi Colony, DIG Bungalow, Krishi Upaj Mandi, and Karond.

Facilities and Amenities at Metro Stations

The Metro Rail Corporation of Madhya Pradesh has decided that the stations on this corridor will feature facilities similar to those found in airports. These amenities will include food plazas, shops, and other conveniences, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable experience for passengers. The Indore metro station, which also boasts airport-like amenities, serves as a model for the Bhopal metro stations.

With the construction of the Bhopal metro corridor between Subhash Nagar and AIIMS moving swiftly, the recent successful trial run is a promising indicator of the project's progress. As work continues on both the first and second phases, the metro is set to transform urban transportation in Bhopal. The new facilities and extensive network of stations will provide a modern, efficient, and comfortable travel option for everyone in the city.
