Bengaluru Weather Alert: Thunderstorms, Lightning, & Strong Winds to Occur Likely in the Coming Days

As a hailstorm occurred in the city, Bengaluru residents should be ready for changing weather conditions over the next one to two days. region and time, so while one area might get rain, another place could remain dry.

Reason behind this Bengaluru Weather Change

Weather experts believe that this weather change is caused by a series of factors. Excessive heat during the day, moisture from the Bay of Bengal, and wind patterns over south interior Karnataka are causing clouds to form in the sky, leading to short and sudden thunderstorms that are likely, especially in the late afternoon or evening, rather than early morning.

IMD's Nowcast System to Predict Weather Conditions

The IMD is closely tracking these weather changes using its nowcast system, which gives updates every three hours. These updates are based on radar, satellite images, and weather station data, which help in predicting small, fast-changing storms that may affect only certain parts of the city. When strong clouds are detected, warnings may include lightning, heavy rain for a short span, along with increasing wind speeds from 40 to 50 km/h.

Usual Seasonal Changes in Bengaluru

This type of weather is common in March and early April, as the city's season transforms from winter to summer. Rising temperatures and higher humidity levels increase the chances of thunderstorms. Usually, the day may be hot and partly sunny, but sudden storms can occur later in the later part of the day.

Necessary Precautions

Residents are advised to practice simple safety steps during the extreme weather conditions. Staying indoors during lightning, avoiding open areas, and being careful while driving can help reduce the possible risks. It is also important to secure your vehicles in the parking areas, especially in areas with trees or construction, to prevent damage during strong winds.
