Bengaluru Weather Alert: IMD Warns of Rain, Thunderstorms Till April 11 Across Karnataka

Bengaluru is set to witness a shift in weather conditions this week, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting rainfall and thunderstorm activity across several parts of Karnataka till April 11. The alert comes amid the influence of active weather systems, including cyclonic circulation and trough patterns, impacting the region.

According to the IMD forecast, rainfall is expected in Bengaluru over the next couple of days, with skies likely to remain partly cloudy and temperatures hovering around 33°C (maximum) and 23°C (minimum). Evening and night hours may see scattered showers, indicating a gradual transition from dry to unstable weather conditions.

Thunderstorm Warning Across Karnataka

The IMD has issued a broader alert covering multiple regions of the state. Heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely in parts of:

  • North Interior Karnataka: Belagavi, Dharwad, Gadag, Raichur, Kalaburagi
  • South Interior Karnataka: Chikkamagaluru, Kodagu, Mysuru and nearby areas
  • Coastal Karnataka: Dakshina Kannada and Udupi (thundershowers expected, especially around April 7)

Wind speeds during these conditions may reach 30-40 kmph, particularly in districts experiencing thunderstorm activity.

What's Driving the Weather Shift?

The current weather pattern is linked to multiple atmospheric systems:

  • A cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal, near the southern Andhra Pradesh coast
  • A trough extending from West Bengal through Chhattisgarh to Telangana
  • Additional regional influences affecting moisture and cloud formation

These combined systems are contributing to rainfall across Karnataka, including Bengaluru.

Changing Rain Patterns Across Regions

While rainfall is expected across several districts, the intensity and spread may vary:

  • Southern interior districts such as Mysuru and Chamarajanagar may see scattered evening showers
  • Dakshina Kannada (Sullia, Subramanya regions) could experience localized thunderstorms during evening and night
  • Some regions may continue to see a mix of sunshine and cloud cover, with rainfall occurring intermittently
  • At the same time, atmospheric conditions such as dry air from the Arabian Sea in upper layers may influence rainfall distribution in certain coastal pockets.

Bengaluru Outlook

For Bengaluru residents, the coming days point towards:

  • Partly cloudy skies
  • Possibility of light to moderate rainfall (especially evenings)
  • Stable temperatures around 33°C / 23°C
  • Gradual increase in cloud cover through the day

Travel Note

If you are planning outdoor activities in Bengaluru this week, late afternoons and evenings may bring short spells of rain. Keeping flexible plans and light rain protection could help navigate the changing weather smoothly.
