Bengaluru & Vijayapura Express Train: M.B. Patil Requested Central Government for a New Train Service

Karnataka Infrastructure Development Minister M. B. Patil has requested the central government to introduce a new express train service between Bengaluru and Vijayapura. This demand has arisen after the completion of the 9.60-kilometre double railway line between Alamatti and Wandal, which became operational on March 25.

Alamatti-Wandal Section of Gadag-Hotgi double-line Project

According to an official statement, the minister wrote a letter on March 30 to Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Minister V. Somanna, asking them to prioritise this proposal. In his letter, he mentioned that the Alamatti-Wandal section is part of the larger Gadag-Hotgi double-line project, which has now been completed.
Patil also pointed out that during an earlier discussion, officials had said that once this railway work was finished, an express train connecting Bengaluru and Vijayapura could be introduced. Now that the project is complete, he has urged the government to move forward with this plan quickly.

Train Journey between Bengaluru & Vijayapura

Currently, the train journey between Bengaluru and Vijayapura takes around 15 hours, which is quite long and uncomfortable for passengers. The minister stressed that this travel time should be reduced to about 10 hours to improve connectivity and save time. He also suggested that trains starting from Bengaluru should have limited stops until Hubballi to ensure faster travel. Moreover, he recommended that trains going towards Vijayapura should use the Hubballi and Gadag bypass routes.

Reason behind this Proposed Rail Project

He explained that many people from Vijayapura and Bagalkote districts travel regularly to Bengaluru for various reasons such as education, medical treatment, official work, and business activities. Therefore, a direct express train would make travel much easier and more convenient for them.
