The weather in Karnataka is expected to change sharply over the weekend, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) warning of thunderstorms, heavy rain, lightning, hailstorms, and strong winds in many districts over the next few days.

Karnataka Rain Alert
According to the IMD's seven-day forecast, most parts of the state will continue to experience hot and sunny weather during the daytime. However, cloud formation in the afternoon may lead to thunderstorms and rain in several areas.
KSNDMC said light to moderate rainfall along with thunderstorms is likely in many districts. Some places in North Interior Karnataka have already reported hailstorms. The weather department has warned that isolated heavy rainfall may occur in South Interior Karnataka and the Malnad region on May 16 and 17. The IMD also stated thunderstorms with gusty winds of 40-50 kmph are likely in North Interior Karnataka. South Interior Karnataka is expected to receive rain and strong winds from May 15 to 18, while winds of 30-40 kmph may continue on May 19 as well.
Bengaluru Rain Alert
In Bengaluru, the weather is expected to remain partly cloudy. The city may receive light to moderate rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds, especially during the evening hours. Coastal Karnataka may also witness thunderstorms with gusty winds of 30-40 kmph. Fishermen and coastal residents have been advised to check weather updates before going into the sea. Districts likely to be affected include Ballari, Chitradurga, Davanagere, Mysuru, Vijayapura, and Kodagu.
Advisory for Residents
Authorities warned of traffic problems, uprooting of weak trees, and possible damage to temporary houses and crops kept in open areas. The IMD has advised people to stay indoors during storms, avoid standing under trees, unplug electrical appliances, and drive carefully during rain and low visibility.
