Karnataka Weather Alert

Thunderstorms are likely in different parts of Karnataka between May 31 and June 6. Coastal districts such as Dakshina Kannada and Udupi are expected to receive heavy rainfall from June 3 to June 6. Uttara Kannada is also likely to experience moderate rainfall during the same period.

In southern interior Karnataka, including Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Mysuru, Kodagu, Chamarajanagar, and Mandya, heavy rain is expected on May 31 and June 1. Strong winds with speeds of 40 to 50 kmph may accompany the rain, and people have been advised to stay cautious.

Bengaluru Rain Alert

A yellow alert has been issued for Bengaluru. The city is expected to experience cloudy skies over the next two days, with heavy rain and thunderstorms possible during the evening or night. Day temperatures may reach 33°C, while the minimum temperature could remain around 21°C. The rain is expected to bring some relief from the recent heat.

Reason behind the Weather Change

According to the IMD, conditions are becoming favourable for the arrival of the southwest monsoon. The monsoon is currently advancing over parts of the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal and is expected to move further over Lakshadweep, Kerala, and some areas of Tamil Nadu soon. A surface cyclonic circulation over Vidarbha and the Bay of Bengal is also expected to increase rainfall activity in Karnataka.

Advisory for Residents

Farmers have been advised to protect their crops from possible damage due to rain and thunderstorms. The public has also been urged not to take shelter under trees or stay in open areas during thunderstorms, as this can be dangerous.
