The southwest monsoon has arrived in Karnataka, bringing much-needed relief from the summer heat and marking the start of the state's important rainy season. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the monsoon entered parts of coastal Karnataka on Thursday, including Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts.

Karnataka Rain Alert
Weather experts stated that conditions are favourable for the monsoon to move further into the state over the next few days. Areas in South Interior Karnataka, such as Mysuru, Chamarajanagar, Mandya, Ramanagara, and Bengaluru, are expected to receive rainfall soon. The Karnataka coast met all the required weather conditions for the official onset of the monsoon, including regular rainfall, strong southwesterly winds, and widespread cloud cover.
Yellow Alert in Karnataka's Few Districts
Rainfall activity has already increased in coastal districts like Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada. The IMD has issued a yellow alert for these areas until June 10, warning of heavy rain, strong winds, and possible local disruptions.
Bengaluru Rain Alert
Bengaluru and nearby districts are also likely to experience rainy and windy weather as the monsoon advances inland. A yellow alert has been issued for the city, with forecasts of intermittent rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds. Wind speeds during thunderstorms may reach 40 to 50 kmph. Temperatures are expected to remain pleasant, with maximum temperatures around 33°C and minimum temperatures near 21°C.
Reason behind Weather Changes
The changing weather is being influenced by several atmospheric systems, including cyclonic circulations over Vidarbha and weather disturbances over the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal. These systems are increasing moisture flow into Karnataka and helping the monsoon advance.
