Travelers Beware: Bengaluru-Mysuru Road To Get Smart Traffic System From July 1

Starting July 1, the Bengaluru-Mysuru Road will see the implementation of the Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS). This new system aims to improve traffic management and enhance road safety. The ITMS was first introduced in Bengaluru in December 2022, and it includes 250 automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras and 80 red light violation detection (RLVD) cameras at 50 key junctions. These cameras help detect traffic violations and ensure better compliance with road safety rules.

Smart Traffic System Implementation

The new system will now expand to Mysuru with ANPR cameras installed on major roads. The total cost of installing these cameras is ₹8.5 crore, with Mysuru city receiving ₹4 crore and the district region getting ₹4.5 crore. From July 1, traffic violators in Mysuru will start receiving challans, and real-time SMS alerts will be sent to violators to inform them of their offenses.

The cameras will monitor several areas, including Hunsur, HD Kote, Nanjangud, and T Narasipur. A Traffic Management Centre has been set up in Mysuru to oversee the system and ensure its smooth operation. The Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) for Traffic and Road Safety, Alok Kumar, has expressed his commitment to extending the ITMS to other major highways connecting Bengaluru. These include Tumakuru Road (NH 4), Kanakapura Road (NH 948), Hosur Road (NH 44), and NH 75.

These highways will also feature Variable Messaging Signs (VMS) to inform drivers about real-time traffic conditions and road events. More cameras and VMS boards are planned for the Bengaluru-Mysuru highway. The state road transport authority has approved the proposal, and tenders will be issued in July.

Reduced Travel Time

The 117-kilometer stretch of the National Highway between Bengaluru and Mysuru is expected to reduce travel time to just 75 minutes. This significant improvement in travel time is anticipated to be completed by October 2024. The reduction in travel time will be a major benefit for commuters, making the journey between these two cities much more efficient and convenient.

New Highway Segment

A new segment of the highway, the 61-kilometer stretch between Mysuru and Nidaghatta (near Maddur), is likely to be completed by early September. This segment is part of the overall project to improve the Bengaluru-Mysuru highway and is being constructed at a cost of ₹2,919 crore. Significant progress has already been made on this segment, and its completion will further enhance the connectivity and travel experience for commuters.

The introduction of the ITMS on the Bengaluru-Mysuru Road represents a significant step forward in improving road safety and traffic management in the region. The use of advanced technology to monitor and manage traffic will help reduce violations and ensure smoother travel for everyone. The reduced travel time and the completion of new highway segments will provide additional benefits, making the journey between Bengaluru and Mysuru quicker and more comfortable.

The implementation of the Intelligent Traffic Management System on the Bengaluru-Mysuru Road from July 1 is a welcome development. With advanced cameras and real-time traffic management, the system promises to enhance road safety and improve traffic flow. The reduced travel time and new highway segments will further benefit commuters, making the journey between these two important cities more efficient and enjoyable. The continued expansion of the ITMS to other major highways in the region will ensure that the benefits of this technology are felt across the state, contributing to better road safety and more efficient travel for all.
