The proposed Sarjapur-Hebbal Metro Line, also known as the Red Line, is expected to become one of Bengaluru's most important metro corridors. Planned under Namma Metro Phase 3A, the 37-km line will connect Sarjapur in southeast Bengaluru with Hebbal in the north. The project aims to improve connectivity between major

residential areas, commercial zones, and IT hubs while reducing traffic congestion across the city.
Bengaluru Metro's Red Line
The corridor will include 28 metro stations and pass through several busy locations such as Sarjapur, Carmelaram, Doddakannalli, Kaikondrahalli, Bellandur Gate, Ibblur, Agara, Koramangala, Dairy Circle, NIMHANS, Town Hall, KR Circle, Basaveshwara Circle, Palace Guttahalli, Mekhri Circle, Ganganagar, and Hebbal. These stations are expected to provide better transportation access to thousands of daily commuters.
How will Bengaluru's Red Line Boost the City's Transportation?
The Red Line will also offer smooth interchange facilities with other Namma Metro corridors. Passengers will be able to connect with the Blue Line at Agara, Ibblur and Hebbal, the Pink Line at Dairy Circle, the Purple Line at KR Circle and the upcoming Orange Line at Hebbal. These connections will make cross-city travel more convenient and reduce dependence on road transport.
A significant portion of the route will run underground through central Bengaluru, while other sections will be elevated. This planning will help reduce land acquisition requirements and minimise disruption in crowded areas. Once completed, the journey between Sarjapur and Hebbal is expected to take around 50 to 60 minutes, significantly reducing travel time compared to road journeys during peak hours.
The Karnataka government has approved the project, while final approval from the central government is awaited. Once construction starts, the metro corridor is expected to improve access to IT parks, educational institutions, and residential areas. It will also support Bengaluru's growing transport needs by providing a reliable and environmentally friendly travel option. The project is currently expected to be completed around 2030, depending on approvals and construction progress.
