Bengaluru Metro's 14th Train on Yellow Line has Arrived, Will Undergo Testing and Trials

The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has received the 14th train for the Yellow Line of Namma Metro at the Hebbagodi depot after experiencing several delays. The six-coach train arrived on July 9 and was unloaded before workers installed its couplers and gangways. It has now been moved to the inspection bay for further checks and testing.

According to BMRCL officials, the train will first undergo static inspections. After that, it must complete a mandatory 750-km dynamic trial on the main metro line. These tests are carried out only during the night to avoid affecting regular metro services. The train can begin passenger operations only after completing all safety tests.

Bengaluru Metro's Last Train on Yellow Line to Arrive in July

With the arrival of the 14th train, Kolkata-based Titagarh Rail Systems Limited (TRSL), which is manufacturing the trains, now has only one more train left to deliver for the Yellow Line. The final train is expected to arrive by the end of July.

Bengaluru Metro's Yellow Line Operations

Currently, 10 trains are operating on the 19.75-km Yellow Line, allowing metro services every seven minutes during peak hours and every 10 minutes during non-peak hours. Once all 15 trains are available, BMRCL plans to increase the frequency, reducing waiting time to around four to five minutes during busy hours.

Out of the 15 trains, 13 will be used for daily passenger services, while two will remain as reserve trains. These reserve trainsets will help maintain services during emergencies, maintenance work, or technical problems. BMRCL aims to have the entire fleet ready by the end of August.

The Yellow Line connects Bengaluru's southern areas with Electronics City and was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 10, 2025. It is also the first Namma Metro corridor to use Communication-Based Train Control (CBTC) technology, which supports driverless train operations. At present, trains are being operated manually. Once the CBTC system is fully activated, trains will be able to run at shorter intervals of around 90 seconds, improving service frequency, efficiency and passenger convenience.

After completing the Yellow Line order, TRSL will begin manufacturing 18 additional trains for the Purple and Green Lines.
