Greater Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda reset Namma Metro timelines over the weekend. The 58-km Blue Line to Kempegowda International Airport will now open in phases from mid-2027, with full operations targeted for March 2028. Separately, the Pink Line’s 7.5-km elevated Bannerghatta Road stretch is now likely in September, pending statutory inspection and approvals.
The shift matters most on the Outer Ring Road, where 8–10 lakh employees travel daily across more than 500 firms. A proposed Rs 450-crore white-topping between October 2026 and January 2027 could coincide with pending Metro works, risking gridlock. Firms have urged a pause and detailed diversion planning; authorities even floated temporary work-from-home during road works.

Gowda said the Blue Line will open in three stages, aligning deadlines to on-ground complexity. Hebbal–Airport is planned by September 2027, while the KR Puram–Hebbal segment, the toughest, shifts into early 2028. Trial runs on the ORR section begin in October 2026. Earlier this month, BMRCL pegged overall airport-corridor progress at 72.75 percent.

Bengaluru Metro update: Pink elevated stretch
For Bannerghatta commuters, commissioning moved from the August 15 target to a likely September window. An interim speed certificate issued on August 12 cleared Pink Line trains for safety inspection, the last statutory mile before opening. Expect the Jayadeva Hospital interchange to decongest surface traffic once services begin. Railway Board signalling clearances also advanced the process.
Until the first openings, plan for bus-first commutes and staggered hours on the ORR. ORRCA has sought a traffic simulation, diversions, and bus priority before any road overlay starts.
