The much-awaited elevated section of Bengaluru's Namma Metro Pink Line is now expected to open for passengers in the first week of September 2026. The section was earlier planned to start operations on August 15, but the opening was delayed because some important approvals are still pending.
Bengaluru Metro's Pink Line Opening
According to PC Jaffer, Managing Director of Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), most of the work on the elevated section has been completed. The remaining process includes approval from the Railway Board for the trains and an inspection by the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS). The exact opening date will be decided after these statutory clearances are received.
Bengaluru Metro's Pink Line Stretch
The elevated stretch will connect Kalena Agrahara and Tavarekere and is an important part of the Pink Line. The line is expected to provide better connectivity to several parts of Bengaluru and make daily travel easier for commuters.
The Railway Board had earlier given in-principle approval for the Communication Based Train Control (CBTC) signalling and train control system for the Pink Line. This approval was an important step towards starting passenger services on the elevated section.
Meanwhile, work is continuing on the underground section of the Pink Line, which will connect Dairy Circle to Nagawara. BMRCL has set a target of completing this section by mid-2027. Civil construction work has already been completed, while electrification is almost finished and signalling work is underway.
The complete Pink Line is planned to cover about 21.3 km, linking Kalena Agrahara with Nagawara. Once the entire corridor becomes operational, it is expected to improve public transport connectivity across Bengaluru.
For now, commuters will have to wait a little longer for the elevated section. If all remaining approvals and safety inspections are completed on time, passengers could start using this part of the Pink Line in September.
