Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) announced on March 20 that fans attending matches at M Chinnaswamy Stadium will get free Metro rides on match days. This move is made in discussions between RCB and Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited to make travel easier for spectators.
Match Ticket Holders with Bengaluru Metro Tickets
According to RCB, match ticket holders will also receive a Metro ticket. Fans can scan the QR code on their ticket at Metro gates while entering and exiting stations on the same day. The nearest stations to the stadium are Cubbon Park Metro Station and MG Road Metro Station. This free service allows one trip to the stadium and one return journey, and the QR code cannot be shared with others.
Why is the initiative taken?
Reports suggest that BMRCL will be paid in advance, with RCB covering around Rs 100 per ticket to include both onward and return travel costs. This initiative is expected to reduce traffic congestion in Bengaluru's busy central areas by encouraging fans to use public transport instead of private vehicles.
A similar system has already been introduced in Chennai, where Chennai Super Kings (CSK) partnered with Chennai Metro in 2023. The 19th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will begin on March 28, with RCB facing Sunrisers Hyderabad at their home ground in Bengaluru. RCB will play five matches at home and two in Raipur during the season.
Availability of Tickets
RCB also confirmed that tickets will only be available through its official website and app. Fans can pre-book limited parking spaces at nearby locations and use shuttle services to reach the stadium. Additionally, Metro and bus services will run longer hours on match days to support the extra crowd.
