Bengaluru Metro Blue Line has received its first train, marking a major milestone for the project

The much-awaited Namma Metro Blue Line has received its first train, marking an important milestone for Bengaluru's metro expansion project. However, passengers may still have to wait several months before trial runs begin because the required tracks and supporting infrastructure are not yet fully ready.

Bengaluru Metro Blue Line

The Blue Line, which will connect key parts of Bengaluru, including the Outer Ring Road corridor and eventually the airport, is one of the city's largest metro projects. The first train has been delivered by BEML as part of a larger order of metro trains for the Blue and Pink Lines.

Metro Trains Testing

Before passenger services can start, the train must undergo several tests. However, officials have said that trial runs cannot begin immediately because the track connection between the metro corridor and the depot is still incomplete. The depot is essential for parking, maintenance, and testing of trains. Without a proper link to the depot, train testing on the main line cannot proceed.

According to Metro officials, civil construction on the Blue Line has made significant progress, but work on the viaduct and depot connectivity is still underway. The Baiyappanahalli depot is being upgraded to support Blue Line operations, and delays in land acquisition have slowed some parts of the project.

Bengaluru Metro's Blue Line to Improve Connectivity

The Blue Line will span about 58 km and will be developed in phases. The first section between Silk Board Junction and KR Puram is expected to open before the rest of the corridor. Authorities aim to improve connectivity along Bengaluru's busy IT corridor and provide a future direct metro connection to Kempegowda International Airport.
While receiving the first train is a major achievement, experts say the project still requires completion of tracks, depot access, signalling systems, and safety approvals before trial runs and commercial operations can begin. As a result, the start of Blue Line services remains several months away despite the arrival of the train.
