Introduction of Bengaluru-Mangalore Weekend Special Train, as Requested by MP of Dakshin Kannada

Brijesh Chowta, Member of Parliament from Dakshin Kannada, has requested Ashwini Vaishnaw to introduce a weekend special train between Bengaluru and Mangaluru. He said this is needed as many people travel between these two cities, especially on weekends.

Special Weekend Train between Bengaluru & Mangalore

In his letter, the MP explained that several professionals, students, and workers from coastal Karnataka live and work in Bengaluru. These people often travel back to their hometowns on weekends, but currently, there is no special weekend train service. Due to this, trains are often overcrowded, and passengers experience long wait times and inconvenience.

Bengaluru-Mangalore Train Timings

To solve the issue, he suggested running a special train that would depart from Bengaluru on Friday night and reach Mangaluru on Saturday morning. For the return journey, the train could leave Mangaluru on Sunday night and arrive in Bengaluru early on Monday. This schedule would make weekend travel easier and more comfortable.

Demand for the Service

He also mentioned that the demand for such a service is regular and predictable, and therefore, it should be introduced as soon as possible. Supporting this idea, the Dakshina Kannada District Rail Users group thanked the MP and stated that this has been a long-pending demand that would benefit many passengers.

How was the idea initiated?

This request comes after the extension of the Bengaluru-Kannur Express to Kozhikode from March 15. Earlier, this train was meant mainly for travel between Bengaluru and Mangaluru, but it was extended to Kannur in 2009, which disappointed many passengers in the region.

The rail users' group said this new proposal gives hope to people, as commuting will be easier. They also requested that the Railways continue the current seat-sharing system, where more seats are reserved for passengers from Dakshina Kannada.
