The Railway Board has approved an upgrade for the Bengaluru-Ernakulam Vande Bharat Express by replacing its current eight-coach rake with a larger 16-coach rake. The upgraded service is expected to start operations from next week, offering more seats and better convenience for passengers travelling between Karnataka and Kerala.

Bengaluru-Ernakulam Vande Bharat Express Expansion
The expansion comes in response to the growing demand for tickets on this popular route. With the addition of extra coaches, the train's seating capacity will increase from the existing 530 seats to 1,128 seats, more than doubling the number of passengers it can accommodate.
The move is expected to provide major relief to travellers, especially those planning journeys during the upcoming Onam festival. Since Onam attracts a large number of passengers travelling between Bengaluru and Kerala, ticket demand on this route has increased significantly in recent weeks.
Passengers are Struggling to Get Confirmed Tickets
Due to the heavy rush, many passengers have been struggling to get confirmed tickets. For journeys from Bengaluru to Ernakulam on August 21 and 22, the waiting list for chair car tickets has already crossed 100. Similarly, passengers travelling back from Ernakulam to Bengaluru between August 29 and 31 are currently facing a shortage of available tickets, with no seats showing as available.
Railway officials believe that increasing the train capacity will help reduce the pressure on ticket bookings and allow more passengers to travel comfortably. The additional coaches are expected to improve the chances of getting confirmed reservations, particularly during the busy festival season.
The Bengaluru-Ernakulam Vande Bharat Express has become a preferred travel option due to its faster journey time and modern facilities. The introduction of the 16-coach service will further strengthen connectivity between Bengaluru and Kerala while meeting the increasing demand from daily commuters, tourists, and festival travellers.
Advisory for Passengers
Passengers planning to travel on this route are advised to book tickets early and check the latest availability through official railway booking platforms. The upgraded service is expected to make train travel smoother and more convenient for thousands of passengers.
