Two more Vande Bharat sleeper train rakes are expected to be ready by next month, to launch a second sleeper service of these trains in India.

Building of Sleeper Train Sets
These new sleeper train sets are being built by Bharat Earth Movers Ltd (BEML) at their factory in Bengaluru. They are designed to support overnight travel for longer distances, offering faster and more modern travel than traditional trains. The sleeper rakes have 16 coaches each and are part of a bigger plan to expand Vande Bharat trains beyond shorter day services.
Initially, BEML and the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai had agreed to deliver 10 sleeper rakes to Indian Railways by March 31. But this deadline is likely to be missed. Now, officials expect the third and fourth rakes to be finished by the end of March, and after that, BEML plans to complete one rake each month until all ten are delivered, which may stretch into August.
Expansion of Vande Bharat Trains
The expansion of sleeper Vande Bharat trains is part of a broader strategy to improve long-distance rail travel in India. The Railway Ministry has also said it plans to manufacture 260 more sleeper rakes in the future to meet growing demand for comfortable and fast trains.
In addition, the Integral Coach Factory will independently produce 50 more rakes that will have 24 coaches and include pantry cars, differing from the 16-coach design. These changes are aimed at providing more capacity and better services for passengers on long journeys.
Moreover, while production timelines have been pushed back, progress continues on building Vande Bharat sleeper trains that are expected to transform overnight train travel in India.
