Several districts in Karnataka, including Bengaluru, are likely to continue receiving rain and thunderstorms on Friday, March 20. According to the India Meteorological Department, the city may experience cloudy skies with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers during the day.

Rain Alert in Bengaluru
The weather in Bengaluru is expected to remain humid and slightly cool. Over the past two days, some parts of the city have even seen heavy rainfall and rare hailstorms. The minimum temperature is likely to stay below 19°C, making the weather feel cooler than usual for this time of year. As per the IMD forecast, Bengaluru's temperature on Friday may range between 18°C and 32°C. On March 19, the city recorded slightly unusual temperatures, with the minimum dropping to 17.4°C and the maximum reaching 31.4°C.
Reason Behind this Weather Condition
Many interior areas of Karnataka, including Bengaluru, have received rainfall over the last few days. Experts say this sudden weather change is due to specific atmospheric conditions, including lower freezing levels and the interaction of two anticyclonic systems over the region.
Unusual Weather Conditions in Bengaluru
Hailstorms in March are a very rare experience for Bengaluru. The city usually experiences hot summer weather during this month. Moreover, IMD data highlights that Bengaluru has not recorded hailstorms in March for the past 20 years. Hailstorms are more commonly seen in April and May. Recently, the city received about 7 mm of rainfall between March 18 and 19. Historically, the highest one-day rainfall in March was recorded on March 28, 1981, when 61 mm of rain fell.
Meanwhile, the IMD has also issued warnings for heavy to very heavy rainfall in several parts of India, especially in the northeastern region, due to strong weather systems forming over the Bay of Bengal.
