The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) has put forward a plan to build a flyover connecting Nagawara to the highway leading to Kempegowda International Airport (KIA). The BDA board has approved the creation of a detailed project report (DPR) for this initiative. This new infrastructure aims to alleviate traffic congestion for vehicles traveling from Nagawara towards KIA.

Currently, traffic jams are frequent under the existing flyover as vehicles heading to Tumakuru Road, KIA, and Mehkri Circle converge on the same route. The long-awaited construction of an additional ramp at this junction has been delayed, causing ongoing traffic issues, especially for those traveling towards Mehkri Circle and BEL Circle.
Repurposing Existing Infrastructure
The BDA is considering reusing some of the 11 large pillars built in 2019 for a previous ramp project. This earlier project was stopped midway due to objections from the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL). BMRCL had concerns that the ramp's alignment would interfere with future Metro lines. Now, BDA plans to evaluate if these unused pillars can be integrated into the new flyover.
The previous project had already cost Rs 25 crore, with pillars constructed inside a tree park at the junction. By repurposing these structures, BDA aims to optimize resources and reduce costs for the new flyover construction.
Improving Traffic Flow
To avoid congestion, many drivers from Nagawara take inner roads through Kempapura and use the service road near Esteem Mall to access the Hebbal flyover. This detour contributes significantly to gridlock at the junction. The proposed flyover is expected to provide seamless access for air passengers by linking directly with the national highway.
A source from BDA mentioned that "Construction of the flyover and linking it with NH will provide seamless access for air passengers. The length of the flyover is unlikely to be more than a kilometre." The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is currently widening roads near Hebbal Lake's defence area, offering ample space for building the down ramp of this proposed flyover.
This development is crucial as it promises smoother travel routes and reduced congestion in one of Bengaluru's busiest areas. By addressing these persistent traffic woes, commuters can expect improved travel times and less stress on their daily journeys.
