From Byappanahalli to MG Road: Bangalore Metro Stations Get Smarter with AI; Check Details

The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has taken a big step to improve the safety of passengers. From May 6, 2025, BMRCL started using a new AI-powered CCTV system at six metro stations between Byappanahalli and MG Road. This smart system helps keep a close watch not only inside the stations but also around the nearby areas.

Bangalore Metro Stations Get Smarter

New Technology to Watch More Than Just the Station

This new system uses artificial intelligence (AI) to monitor the surroundings in a smarter way. It keeps a watch on the full station area, helping the metro staff stay alert and aware of what's happening around the stations. With this system, any suspicious movement or possible threat can be quickly found and checked.

Cameras That Can Read Number Plates

One of the most important features of this new technology is something called Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR). This system reads and checks the number plates of vehicles moving near the metro stations. When ANPR is used with AI video tools, it helps in finding anything unusual or risky happening near the station. It gives real-time updates and makes the safety checks even stronger.

Focus on Public Safety

BMRCL Managing Director, M Maheshwar Rao, shared how important this upgrade is. He said, "Security remains a top priority for BMRCL. We continuously work towards implementing cutting-edge technologies that promote the safety and security of our passengers. The introduction of AI-powered surveillance and ANPR technology allows us to proactively monitor station environments, detect threats swiftly, and ensure a safer, more secure metro network for Bengaluru. This initiative reflects our commitment to operational excellence and public safety."

A Step Towards a Smarter Metro System

This move shows BMRCL's strong interest in using the latest technology not just to run the metro better but also to keep passengers safe. As Bengaluru's metro grows bigger, having such smart safety systems will help make public transport more comfortable and secure for everyone. These smart technologies also support the idea of creating a modern and safe metro system in the city.

The use of AI-powered CCTV systems with ANPR technology is a big and positive change for the Bengaluru metro. It clearly shows that BMRCL wants to use smart ideas to make travel safe. This new step not only protects people but also shows BMRCL's strong promise to bring the best service and safety for all metro users.
