Bangalore Metro Extends Service Hours for WPL 2025 Matches – Check New Timings

To help cricket fans reach Chinnaswamy Stadium for the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2025 matches, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has extended metro service hours on select days. The metro will run for longer hours on February 21, 22, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, and March 1 to make travel easier for fans attending the matches in Bengaluru.

Extended Metro Timings for WPL 2025

With large crowds expected on match days, BMRCL has adjusted the last metro train timings to help fans return home safely:

- From Challaghatta, Whitefield, Madavara, and Silk Institute: Last train at 11:20 PM
- From Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Station (Majestic): Last train at 11:55 PM (towards all directions)

This move follows BMRCL's past decisions to extend metro timings during IPL and other major cricket events. The goal is to reduce traffic congestion around the stadium and provide a hassle-free travel experience.

Easy Ticketing Options for Passengers

To make metro travel smooth for passengers, BMRCL offers different ticketing options:

- QR tickets
- Smart Cards
- National Common Mobility Cards (NCMC)
- Tokens

These ticket options will help passengers avoid long queues and access the metro easily during extended hours.

Challenges for BMRCL Due to Ridership Decline

Although the metro service extension is beneficial for cricket fans, BMRCL is facing financial difficulties due to a drop in ridership after a recent fare increase.

A key concern is the difference in costs between WPL match tickets and metro fares:
- WPL match ticket: Rs 100
- Round-trip metro fare from terminal stations: Rs 180

This price gap has raised concerns about affordability for fans, as some may find metro travel expensive compared to match tickets.

The metro service extension for WPL 2025 shows BMRCL's commitment to improving public transport for major events in Bengaluru. By offering longer service hours, BMRCL is not only supporting the WPL matches but also helping improve urban mobility during peak times.

As Bengaluru grows, such initiatives are important to keep the city's transport system efficient and provide convenient travel options for both residents and visitors.
