The Uttar Pradesh government has started building Ayodhya's first ring road to manage the increasing traffic and improve road access. After the inauguration of the Ram Temple, the number of visitors to Ayodhya has increased, causing heavy congestion. To solve this issue, the government is investing ₹3,935 crore in the project. This ring road will ensure smooth traffic flow and better connectivity to important cities like Lucknow, Varanasi, Prayagraj, and Raebareli.

Major Features of the Ayodhya Ring Road
The ring road will cover 67.17 kilometers, and the construction process has already begun. The tendering process is complete, and work is in progress. This project is not just about improving roads but also about making travel in and around Ayodhya easier and faster.
Better Connectivity with Key Infrastructure
The ring road will include two big bridges over the Saryu River, which will connect Ayodhya to nearby districts like Basti and Gonda. There will also be seven flyovers and four railway overbridges to make travel smoother. These railway overbridges will be placed on railway tracks that connect Ayodhya to Varanasi, Prayagraj, Lucknow, and Mankapur. This will make train and road transport more convenient.
To ensure smooth vehicle movement, the plan includes 16 underpasses at important locations. These underpasses will help prevent traffic jams and allow vehicles to move without interruptions at busy intersections.
Reducing Traffic and Boosting Tourism
Once completed, the ring road will help reduce heavy traffic on Ayodhya's main roads. This will make travel more comfortable for both locals and visitors. The new road will also boost the tourism industry, making it easier for people to visit the city's famous religious and historical sites.
The road will have four to six lanes and is divided into two sections:
- Package 1 - Northern Ayodhya Bypass: Covers 35.40 kilometers
- Package 2 - Southern Ayodhya Bypass: Covers 32.172 kilometers
This division will help in managing traffic effectively and ensuring a well-planned road network around the city.
The Ayodhya Ring Road project is an important step towards solving traffic problems, improving road connections, and supporting economic growth. With bridges, flyovers, railway overbridges, and underpasses, the project will make travel smoother and faster. Once completed, it will greatly benefit both residents and tourists, making Ayodhya an even more accessible and welcoming city.
