Prime Minister Narendra Modi began a two-day visit to Assam on March 13 and launched three new train services to improve rail connectivity in Northeast India. These trains are expected to make travel easier for passengers while also supporting tourism, trade, and economic activity in the region.

Launching of Three Trains
The three trains introduced during the visit include the Guwahati-New Jalpaiguri Vande Bharat Express, the Kamakhya-Charlapalli Amrit Bharat Express, and the Narangi-Agartala Express. Each of these services is designed to strengthen connections between important cities in the Northeast and other parts of the country.
Guwahati-New Jalpaiguri Vande Bharat Express
The Guwahati-New Jalpaiguri Vande Bharat Express will connect Guwahati in Assam with New Jalpaiguri in West Bengal. The train will stop at several key stations, including Kamakhya, Rangiya, New Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar, Gossaigaon Hat, New Alipurduar, and New Cooch Behar. It is expected to provide faster and more comfortable travel for passengers, especially students, tourists, and business travellers moving between Assam and North Bengal. It will also strengthen links with popular tourist areas like Siliguri and Darjeeling.
Kamakhya-Charlapalli Amrit Bharat Express
Another important train launched is the Kamakhya-Charlapalli Amrit Bharat Express, which will create a direct rail connection between the Northeast and southern India. The train will run between Kamakhya in Assam and Charlapalli near Hyderabad in Telangana. Covering a distance of more than 2,400 km, it will pass through several states, including Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Bihar, and West Bengal. The service is expected to improve long-distance connectivity and provide affordable travel options with sleeper and general coaches.
Narangi-Agartala Express
The third service, the Narangi-Agartala Express, will improve rail connectivity between Assam and Tripura. It is expected to make travel between the two states easier for passengers, traders, and tourists.
During his visit, the Prime Minister is also scheduled to launch and inaugurate several development projects worth over ₹47,600 crore in Assam, covering sectors such as roads, railways, and infrastructure. These initiatives aim to boost regional development and strengthen connectivity across the Northeast.
