Aves Island: Andaman and Nicobar Set to Open New Untouched Location for Eco-Tourism

Unlocking Aves Island:

Aves Island: In a significant move to boost tourism in the mesmerizing Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the Union Territory administration has greenlit the opening of Aves Island, also known as Coconut Island, in the North and Middle Andaman district. Currently off-limits to tourists due to a lack of accommodation facilities, Aves Island is now poised to become a sought-after destination with plans for a five-star eco-tourism resort.

Exploring Coconut Island: A Nature Lover's Dream

Aves Island, adorned with lush green coconut plantations, live and dead coral flat beds, dense forests, and a pristine 2 km coastline, is an ideal retreat for nature enthusiasts and campers. Situated near Mayabunder town, the island offers a picturesque landscape to explore, with trekking trails winding through coconut plantations leading to a lighthouse on the southern point.

Public-Private Partnership for Sustainable Tourism

To facilitate this ambitious project, the administration is working under a Public-Private Partnership mode, engaging in a Design-Build-Finance-Operate-Transfer (DBFOT) basis. The proposed five-star eco-tourism resort, requiring an investment of approximately INR 36 crore, will boast 50 rooms and a range of facilities. This includes a shopping area for local souvenirs, game fishing, scuba diving, forest trekking, nature camping, and a wellness center.

ANIIDCO Managing Director Nandini Paliwal expressed optimism about the project's success, citing positive responses from leading hospitality players during an Investor Conference in Delhi.

Andaman's Global Tourism Push

The initiative aims to position the Andaman and Nicobar Islands prominently on the global tourism circuit. This strategic move is anticipated to contribute significantly to the socio-economic development of the region. The administration has prepared a Project Information Memorandum (PIM) titled 'Development of Eco-Tourism Projects in the Andaman Islands - 2023,' outlining comprehensive plans for the holistic development of 14 additional tourist places.
