Indian Railways Launches 20 New Trains from February 1 Under TAG 2026 to Boost National Connectivity

Indian Railways has announced the launch of 20 new train services across the country from February 1 to improve rail connectivity and meet the growing demand for comfortable and efficient travel. This move is part of the Trains At A Glance (TAG) 2026 plan, which aims to modernise the railway system, improve passenger comfort, and make operations more efficient.

How Will these Trains Help Commuters?

According to officials, the new services include a combination of Amrit Bharat Express, Vande Bharat trains, passenger trains, and special services. These trains are designed to offer faster, more affordable, and more comfortable travel for daily commuters, long-distance passengers, and tourists. Tickets for all these new trains are already available on the IRCTC website and mobile app, making it easy for passengers to plan their journeys.

While presenting the Union Budget 2026, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman highlighted the government's focus on eco-friendly transport. She said the Centre plans to develop seven high-speed rail corridors between major cities to support sustainable passenger travel and act as growth connectors.

Trains to Connect Important Cities

The 20 new trains will connect important cities across northern, southern, eastern, and western India. This will strengthen links between major cities and regional centres. Some key services include the Delhi-Shamli daily commuter train, Pilibhit-Shahjahanpur Passenger, Rajendra Nagar-New Delhi Amrit Bharat Express, Sabarmati-Jodhpur Vande Bharat, Kamakhya-Rohtak Amrit Bharat, Sambalpur-Erode Special, and new Dhulia-Varanasi and Dhulia-Ayodhya trains to support religious tourism.

Expansion of Amrit & Vande Bharat Trains

A major focus of this expansion is the introduction of more Amrit Bharat Express and Vande Bharat trains. These trains offer better speed, modern facilities, and comparatively lower fares than traditional express trains. This step is part of Indian Railways' larger effort to upgrade infrastructure and improve the travel experience.

Moreover, several special express trains will run temporarily in February to handle heavy passenger demand and reduce waiting lists. Passengers are advised to check train schedules and seat availability on IRCTC before travelling, as timings may change due to operational reasons.
