Amarnath Yatra Registration Begins For 2024 Pilgrimage

The Shri Amarnath Shrine Board has opened registration for the Amarnath Yatra starting June 29, 2024. Devotees are required to register via biometric eKYC and submit a health certificate for the spiritual journey.

Last Updated: April 15, 2024, 11:52 IST, Anantnag, India - The annual pilgrimage to the Amarnath shrine, set in the breathtaking landscapes of the south Kashmir Himalayas, has officially opened its doors for registration starting today, April 15. The sacred journey, attracting devotees to the 3,880-metre-high shrine, will begin on June 29. The Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) has laid out a detailed registration process for the 52-day-long Yatra, emphasizing a smooth experience for pilgrims.

The Yatra offers two routes for the pilgrims - a traditional 48-km Nunwan-Pahalgam path and a 14-km, albeit steeper, Baltal route. Both tracks promise an immersive spiritual journey through the serene yet challenging terrains of Anantnag and Ganderbal districts respectively. To partake in this spiritual journey, pilgrims are required to pay a registration fee of Rs 150 each, adhering to a first-come, first-serve policy.

Understanding the Registration Process

Ensuring a hassle-free registration, pilgrims must use biometric eKYC for real-time verification at designated bank branches. A valid Compulsory Health Certificate (CHC), issued after April 8, 2024, along with an Aadhar Card or any government-approved ID is necessary for registration. Following successful registration, each pilgrim will receive a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) card, a mandatory item for accessing the pilgrimage route.

For detailed information on the registration process, including the list of designated banks, CHC format, and approved medical authorities, pilgrims are advised to visit the SASB website. This initiative ensures that all participating devotees are physically fit and properly identified, enhancing the safety and security of the Yatra.

Guidelines for a Safe Pilgrimage

The SASB has set forth clear guidelines for Yatris, emphasizing the importance of carrying the RFID card at all times and wearing appropriate clothing and footwear for the cold and unpredictable weather conditions. Pilgrims are also urged to adhere to environmental norms, including strict restrictions on plastic use, to preserve the sanctity and cleanliness of the Yatra area.

Devotees are reminded to avoid alcohol, caffeine, and smoking, and to pay attention to any symptoms of high altitude sickness. The importance of staying on the marked paths and avoiding shortcuts cannot be overstressed, ensuring the safety of all participants.

Preparations for Disaster Management

With the pilgrimage drawing closer, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and the Jammu and Kashmir Police are undergoing specialized training. These teams will form the Mountain Rescue Teams (MRTs), stationed at critical points along the routes to assist pilgrims in case of emergencies.

Ram Singh Salathia, in charge of the Jammu and Kashmir MRT Team, stated, "Lakhs of devotees from across the country are expected to join this spiritual journey. Our teams are receiving thorough training to overcome any challenges and ensure the safety and convenience of the pilgrims."

In the heart of the Himalayas, the Amarnath Yatra stands as a testament to faith and resilience, drawing devotees to seek blessings at the holy cave shrine. With meticulous planning and precautionary measures in place, the pilgrimage promises a spiritually enriching experience for all participants.
