The world-famous Amarnath Yatra does not need any introduction. This is the same journey for which devotees wait with great faith for a whole year to start.
Earlier this month, the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB) released a list of permitted and prohibited food items for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra keeping in mind the health of devotees. And now, the schedule and registration dates for Amarnath Yatra 2023 have been announced, marking the beginning of this holy pilgrimage.
Amarnath Yatra Schedule:
The Amarnath Yatra is scheduled to begin on July 1, 2023, and will continue for 62 days till August 31. Pilgrims from all over the world come to pay their respects to Lord Shiva at the holy cave shrine of Shri Amarnath in this yatra which takes place at an altitude of 3880 meters in the south Kashmir Himalayas. Where a naturally formed ice lingam is worshipped.
Role of Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board:
The management of the holy cave shrine is entrusted to the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB), established by the Jammu and Kashmir State Legislature. The SASB is responsible for overseeing the organization and smooth execution of the Yatra, with the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir as its ex-officio chairman.
registration process:
The registration for the yatra started on April 17, 2023. To ensure streamlined travel, SASB has implemented a step-by-step registration process. Guidelines for Group Registration have been issued by the SASB this time also on the lines of the system of "Group Registration" introduced by the Board last year to facilitate registration of pilgrims traveling together as a group. The program will begin on the auspicious day of Skandashashti and end on Shravan Purnima, which is known as Raksha Bandhan. Along with this, special provisions have been made for Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) and ex-India pilgrims to register for the Yatra.
Route and Travel Details:
As always, the pilgrims have two options for routes, one being the 48 km long Nunwan route from Pahalgam and the other being the shorter 14 km Baltal route from Ganderbal. The first group of pilgrims will leave Jammu on June 30 and travel through the Jammu-Srinagar highway to reach their base camps at Pahalgam and Baltal.

Security and Efficiency:
While ensuring the safety and comfort of the pilgrims, the SASB has set a maximum limit of 7,500 pilgrims per route per day for registration. Let us tell you that this limit does not include passengers traveling by helicopter to Panjtarni. Therefore, a maximum of 7,500 registered passengers will be accommodated on both the Pahalgam-Chandanwari track and Sonamarg-Baltal track per day during the scheduled Amarnath Yatra 2023.
