Akasa Air's 'Pets on Akasa' Soars High with Extended Benefits for Pet Owners

In a heartening move for pet owners across India, Akasa Air has announced significant enhancements to its pet-travel service, "Pets on Akasa." Effective from May 8, the airline now permits passengers to travel with their furry companions weighing up to 10 kilograms, inclusive of the weight of the container. This marks a notable increase from the previous restriction of 7 kilograms. Since the inception of the service in November 2022, Akasa Air has facilitated the safe transport of over 3,200 pets, demonstrating its commitment to catering to the needs of pet owners.

Akasa Air s Extended Benefits for Pets

Extended Travel Certificate Validity and Enhanced Amenities

To offer passengers greater flexibility, Akasa Air has introduced improvements to its travel certificate policy for pets. Travel certificates will now remain valid for up to 15 days, compared to the previous validity period of three days. Passengers embarking on longer journeys exceeding 15 days will be required to obtain a new travel certificate. Additionally, these passengers will enjoy enhanced amenities, including a reserved window seat, expedited luggage delivery, and priority boarding. These measures aim to enhance the comfort and convenience of both passengers and their furry companions.

Partnership for Pet Welfare

In a bid to uphold the highest standards of pet safety and comfort, Akasa Air has partnered with the Umeed for Animals Foundation. This collaboration will ensure the adoption of best practices across procedures and policies related to pet travel, further bolstering the airline's commitment to pet welfare.

Financial Impact and Ticket Costs

Since its launch in November 2022, Akasa Air's pet service has proven to be financially lucrative, generating between Rs 1.5 and Rs 1.75 crore in revenue, according to a senior airline official. The popularity of the service underscores the growing demand for pet-friendly travel options in India. Passengers can expect to pay between Rs 4,000 and Rs 6,000 for a one-way ticket for their pet in the cabin on domestic routes within India.

Positive Feedback and Continuous Improvement

Belson Coutinho, Co-Founder and Chief Marketing & Experience Officer at Akasa Air, expressed his satisfaction with the positive changes introduced to the pet-travel service. He emphasized the airline's commitment to listening to customer feedback and leveraging it for continuous improvement, reaffirming Akasa Air's dedication to delivering an exceptional travel experience for all passengers, including their beloved pets.

The "Pets on Akasa" Program

The "Pets on Akasa" program enables passengers to fly domestically to 22 destinations across India with their pets. Depending on their weight, pets can travel either in the cabin or cargo, providing pet owners with flexibility and peace of mind during their travels.

With these enhancements, Akasa Air continues to lead the way in providing pet-friendly travel options, ensuring that passengers and their furry companions can embark on their journeys with comfort, convenience, and peace of mind.
