Ahmedabad to Witness Historic Bhadrakali Mata Procession on Mahashivratri After 614 Years

For the first time in 614 years, Ahmedabad will witness the grand procession of Nagardevi Bhadrakali Mata on February 26, coinciding with Mahashivratri and the city's foundation day. This historic event marks an important spiritual and cultural moment for the people of Ahmedabad. The idol of the Goddess will be placed in a special Paduka Rath, and the procession will begin at 7:30 am from the Bhadrakali Temple.

Route and Rituals of the Procession

The procession will travel through major locations in Ahmedabad, covering:
- Three gates
- Manek Chowk
- Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation Office
- Khamasa and Malpur Darwaza
- Jagannath Temple
- Gaekwad Haveli along the Sabarmati River
- Mahalaxmi Temple and Lal Darwaza Ghar

At important spots like Manek Buraj and the three gates, Mataji's aarti and rituals will be performed, making it a sacred journey for devotees.

Preparations and Community Participation

Under the leadership of Mayor Pratibha Jain, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has made detailed arrangements to ensure a smooth and grand event. Hoardings and banners will decorate the city to celebrate this historic moment. Devotees, including Akharas, bhajan groups, sadhus, and saints, will participate in the Yatra, enhancing its spiritual significance.

Shashikant Tiwari, a trustee of the Lal Darwaza Nagardevi Bhadrakali Temple, confirmed that all necessary preparations have been completed, including obtaining permissions for the event. He also emphasized the appeal to recognize Ahmedabad as Karnavati Nagar, acknowledging the city's historical roots.

The Yatra will conclude around 12:30 pm, followed by a havan and a Bhandara (community feast) in the afternoon for all devotees.

Historical Significance of Bhadrakali Temple

The Bhadrakali Temple is believed to be over 1,000 years old, though its origins are debated. Some historians say it was built during the Maratha period, while others suggest it was established in 1411 by Sultan Ahmed or in the 11th century by King Karnadev.

Notable figures like Narendra Modi and Amit Shah have been invited to attend this significant event.

This grand procession will not only honor Ahmedabad's rich history but also strengthen the city's spiritual connection, bringing people together in devotion and celebration.
