Ahmedabad’s Sardar Patel Ring Road to Expand to 6 Lanes for Smoother Travel

Ahmedabad's Sardar Patel Ring Road is set for a major expansion, increasing from four lanes to six lanes along its 76km stretch. This important project, led by the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA), will not only improve the main road but also upgrade the service roads. A 34km two-lane road and a 15km three-lane road will be widened to four lanes, making traffic movement smoother around the city.

Ahmedabad s Sardar Patel Road Expansion

Separate Tenders for Eastern and Western Sections

To carry out this large-scale project, AUDA has issued two separate tenders. One tender is for expanding the 37km eastern section, while the second tender focuses on widening the 39.25km western section. This initiative is a part of Ahmedabad's efforts to improve city infrastructure and road connectivity, making travel safer and faster.

Bridges, Underpasses, and Pedestrian Safety

The project includes new structures to help ease traffic congestion. Two three-lane bridges will be built near Bhat and Komod over the Sabarmati River, next to the existing ones. Additionally, three six-lane underpasses will be constructed at Bhat Circle, Chiloda Circle, and Aslali Circle to reduce traffic jams at these busy locations.

To ensure pedestrian safety, six foot over-bridges will be built across different parts of the Ring Road. This will make it easier for people to cross the road safely and quickly.

Private Sector Investment in the Project

In February 2019, a private company called ARRIL proposed to handle the expansion project without asking for financial help from AUDA. The company offered to invest Rs 200 crore and requested an extension of their contract beyond December 31, 2026, for three and a half years. This shows how the private sector is playing an important role in public infrastructure development.

The expansion of the Sardar Patel Ring Road is a major step in improving Ahmedabad's infrastructure. With wider roads, new bridges, and better pedestrian facilities, commuters will have a smoother travel experience. This project is expected to set a new standard for future urban development in Ahmedabad and beyond.
