The Ahmedabad police commissioner has announced a major road closure near Kalupur railway station. From September 11, 2024, to September 10, 2027, a key road leading to the station will be closed for redevelopment. This closure will impact both traffic and public transportation around the area.

Infrastructure Upgrades at Kalupur Station
The old entry gate at Kalupur railway station will stay open for passengers during the redevelopment. At the same time, a new footbridge and a 30-foot road are being built by the Dineshchandra R Agrawal Company. These upgrades are part of a larger project to improve the Kalupur railway station, making it more convenient and safer for passengers.
The redevelopment will make it easier for people to exit the station on the western side. The 200-meter stretch of road from Sarangpur Circle to Kalupur railway station will see one side fully closed, while the other side will become a one-way street.
Impact on Public Transport and BRTS Routes
The road closure will also affect BRTS bus services in Ahmedabad. According to a press release from Ahmedabad Janmarg Limited, seven BRTS routes will be affected during the road closure. These include:
- - Route No. 2: SP Ring Road - Bhadaj Circle
- - Route No. 8: Naroda Village - ISKCON Crossroads
- - Route No. 7: Narol - Jundal Circle
- - Route No. 14: Naroda Village - Sanand Circle
- - Route No. 201: RTO Anti-Circular Route
- - Route No. 18: Civil Hospital - Kalupur and Route No. 101
These routes are important for daily commuters, and the changes will require travelers to plan their journeys carefully to avoid delays.
Alternative Routes for Commuters
To ease the traffic situation, the commissioner has suggested three alternative routes. Vehicles going from Sarangpur Circle to Kalupur railway station should now travel through Sindhi Bazar and Panchkuva. From there, they can take a right turn to reach the entry gate of the station, continuing via Motimahal Hotel Road.
For those traveling from Kalupur to Sarangpur, as well as Raypur, Kankariya, and Gita Mandir, they can use the one-way lane on the Kalupur-Sarangpur road. These changes aim to reduce congestion and keep traffic moving smoothly.
Call for Cooperation and Future Benefits
The police commissioner's office has urged citizens to cooperate with the new traffic arrangements and use the suggested alternative routes. The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation's transport unit has made these adjustments to minimize disruptions during the redevelopment.
Once the redevelopment is completed, the Kalupur railway station and surrounding roads will have better facilities and improved traffic flow. While the closure will cause some inconvenience, it is part of a larger effort to modernize the infrastructure around one of Ahmedabad's key transport hubs.
In the long run, the project will help improve connectivity and provide better services for the thousands of passengers who use the station every day. The authorities have asked residents to be patient and cooperate during the construction period for a smoother travel experience in the future.
