Adventure enthusiasts rejoice as the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) has announced the reopening of river rafting in the Teesta River after a hiatus of 5 months. The decision comes following a temporary halt since October 4 last year due to a flash flood in the river. Now, thrill-seekers can once again experience the adrenaline rush of rafting in the Teesta River, known for its foaming white water and varying rapids.

The Teesta River, originating from the Himalayan mountains, offers breathtaking views and dense forests along with the thrill of adventure. With graded routes based on difficulty levels, both beginners and seasoned rafters can enjoy the exhilarating experience. The river's confluence with the Rangeet River adds to the charm, creating a perfect setting for an unforgettable adventure.
The decision to resume rafting comes after thorough consideration of safety measures. Following the October floods, concerns were raised about rising water levels and potential dangers posed by explosive devices carried by the river flow. However, with proper precautions in place, authorities have deemed it safe to restart this popular adventure sport.
Speaking to the media, Satyaprakash Chhetri, Assistant Director of Tourism at GTA, provided details about the resumed rafting operations. Two routes will be available for rafting enthusiasts. The first route, spanning 3.5 kilometers from Bhalukhola to Labarbote, offers a shorter but thrilling ride lasting approximately 15-20 minutes. Meanwhile, the second route covers a distance of 7 kilometers from the 7th Mile to Labarbote, providing a longer adventure lasting around 20-30 minutes.
Each raft can accommodate up to 5 tourists, accompanied by a guide and an assistant. Rental fees for the first route are ₹4,000, while the longer route costs ₹5,000. For travelers' convenience, the rafting point is located 75 kilometers away from Bagdogra Airport, with taxis and rental cars available for transportation. Additionally, New Jalpaiguri railway station, 70 kilometers away, serves as the nearest railhead, with taxis and shared vehicles connecting to the rafting point.
