With many flights being cancelled and holiday travel increasing, Indian Railways has stepped in to ease the rush by adding more special trains across the country. On Thursday, Union Minister Jitendra Singh announced a new special train between New Delhi and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, as thousands of devotees

are heading to the shrine in Jammu and Kashmir.
New Delhi-Katra Special Train
Northern Railway will run Special Train 04081/04082 on 12 and 13 December 2025 to offer smoother travel during the busy winter season.
Train No. 04081 will leave New Delhi at 11:45 pm and reach Katra at 12:00 pm the next day. It will stop at several major stations such as Panipat, Kurukshetra, Ambala Cantt, Ludhiana, Jalandhar Cantt, Pathankot Cantt, Jammu, and Udhampur (Shaheed Captain Tushar Mahajan).
Train No. 04082 will operate on the same dates for the return journey, helping devotees travel both ways without difficulty.
89 Special Trains Announced
To handle the surge in passengers and ongoing airline disruptions, Railways has planned 89 special train services (over 100 trips) between 6 and 9 December. These trains cover multiple railway zones to ensure better connectivity nationwide.
• Central Railway has already operated 14 special trains, including routes like Pune-Bengaluru, Pune-Hazrat Nizamuddin, LTT-Madgaon, CSMT-Hazrat Nizamuddin, LTT-Lucknow, Nagpur-CSMT, Gorakhpur-LTT, and Bilaspur-LTT.
• To manage heavy passenger traffic after flight cancellations, South Eastern Railway has arranged special trains such as Santragachi-Yelahanka, Howrah-CSMT, and Cherlapalli-Shalimar.
• South Central Railway zone has added three services: Cherlapalli-Shalimar, Secunderabad-Chennai Egmore, and Hyderabad-Mumbai LTT.
• Eastern Railway has introduced the Howrah-New Delhi and Sealdah-LTT specials.
• Western Railway will run seven special services, including the Mumbai Central-Bhiwani Superfast Special, which will operate bi-weekly between 9 and 30 December, making a total of 14 trips.
