The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority has stopped all construction work on the 32.32-kilometre Mumbai Metro Line 4 after a parapet wall collapsed at a metro construction site in Mulund on Saturday, resulting in the death of one person. Following the incident, MMRDA has also formed a Special Intensive Safety

Inspection Team to check safety conditions along the entire Metro 4 corridor thoroughly.
Suspension of Construction Work
According to an internal office order issued by Additional Metropolitan Commissioner Ashwin Mudgal, construction work will remain suspended until the inspection team submits its report and all required safety corrections are completed. The order, accessed by Hindustan Times, clearly states that work will resume only after MMRDA is satisfied that safety gaps have been fully addressed.
On Sunday, MMRDA informed the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 7) that the main contractor, subcontractor, or general consultant may be responsible for the accident. Based on an initial review, officials believe the incident may have occurred due to negligence by the contractor or subcontractor, along with insufficient supervision by the general consultant. However, authorities have clarified that a detailed investigation is underway to determine the exact cause and assign responsibility.
Mumbai Metro Line 4 Inspection
The 13-member safety inspection team has been instructed to carry out a complete, corridor-wise inspection without skipping any section of Metro Line 4. The team will compare on-ground construction work with approved design drawings and carefully examine parapets, edge beams, crash barriers, handrails, safety nets, barricades, and structures built above roads and public areas. Traffic safety measures around construction zones will also be reviewed.
Beginning of Inspection
The inspection work began on Sunday morning and is expected to continue for another three to four days. If the team identifies any safety problems during inspections, members have been told to report them immediately. Once the inspection is finished, MMRDA will prepare a list of safety issues along with corrective actions. Construction will be allowed to restart only after these safety measures are fully implemented.
