The Jammu and Kashmir Traffic Police have issued a travel advisory due to the upcoming Amarnath Yatra and current road conditions on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44). The Amarnath Yatra, commencing on July 3, 2025, has already attracted over 3.3 lakh pilgrims. To ensure safety, 50,000 security personnel have been deployed, along with drone surveillance and facial recognition systems.

Comprehensive security measures include multi-layered grids, drills, and no-fly zones. Pilgrims must carry a Compulsory Health Certificate (CHC) and follow traffic rules and cut-off timings on designated routes. Camps offer sanitation facilities, RFID tracking, hot meals, and support staff as part of a zero-waste initiative.
Traffic Plan for July 2
If weather permits, NH-44 will allow yatra vehicles, cars, taxis, and passenger buses in both directions. Heavy trucks (HMVs) will operate on alternate days based on road and weather conditions. Cut-off timings are Nagrota (Jammu) to Srinagar from 6:00 AM to 12:00 PM; Jakheni (Udhampur) to Srinagar from 7:00 AM to 1:00 PM; Qazigund to Jammu from 11:30 AM to 2:00 PM.
No vehicles will be allowed before or after these timings. Due to landslide risks between Ramban and Banihal, daytime travel is strongly recommended for all passengers and Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs).
Guidelines for Goods Carriers
Vehicles transporting perishables or livestock must adhere to official traffic instructions. Ensure vehicles are properly loaded, in good condition, and sufficiently fuelled. Fruit trucks from the Valley should be parked and loaded by 9:00 AM between the NAVYUG Tunnel and Levdoora.
Only Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs) with six or ten tyres can use the Dhar Road route. HMVs may move from Jakheni to Srinagar only with real-time clearance, but must cease movement after 7:00 PM.
Alternate Route Updates
The Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag Road allows cars and small strong vehicles from Parana to Anantnag between 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM and Daksum to Kishtwar from 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM. Heavy trucks are not permitted unless approved.
Mughal Road permits cars and private vehicles both ways. Livestock trucks with up to six tyres can travel from Poonch to Shopian between 6:00 AM - 7:00 PM. Travellers should check real-time updates before travelling using the provided contact numbers for different regions.
