Daily commuters in Kolkata will experience improved Metro services as Metro Railway Kolkata has announced extended operating hours and an increase in train services on the Blue Line (North-South) and Green Line (East-West). The new timetable will be introduced on an experimental basis from July 27 to make daily travel more convenient for passengers.
Kolkata Metro's Revised Timetable from 27 July
The revised schedule has been introduced following repeated demands from commuters for earlier morning and later night Metro services. The changes are expected to benefit office workers, shift employees, students and passengers who need to travel during early and late hours.
From Monday to Saturday, the first Metro service on both the Blue Line and Green Line will now start at 6 am. On the Blue Line, the first train will begin 50 minutes earlier than the previous schedule of 6.50 am. On the Green Line, the first train will start 39 minutes earlier than the earlier timing of 6.39 am.
The last Metro service on both routes will now operate until 10.30 pm. On the Blue Line, services have been extended by 46 minutes from the previous last train timing of 9.44 pm. On the Green Line, the last service has been extended by 25 minutes from the earlier timing of 10.05 pm. On Sundays, Metro services on both lines will run from 9 am to 10.30 pm.
Metro Railway is also increasing the number of daily train services to reduce waiting time. On the Blue Line, weekday services will rise from 260 to 272 trains, Saturday services from 246 to 258 trains, and Sunday services from 152 to 158 trains.
The Green Line will also see an increase in services, with weekday trips rising from 228 to 236, Saturday services from 204 to 212, and Sunday services from 108 to 111 trains.
Metro Railway officials said the changes are being introduced on a trial basis to improve public transport, enhance connectivity and provide safer and more convenient travel options for passengers across Kolkata.
