Chattris Of Scindia Dynasty, Gwalior

The Chattris of Scindia Dynasty are placed on the outskirts of the Gwalior city. The Chhatris of Jivaji Rao Scindia, Daulat Rao Scindia and Janko ji Rao Scindia are important monuments. The Scindias were the Maratha clan rulers of Gwalior after the Mughals.

The Chattris of Scindias are found at Shiva Puri. Shiva Puri means the city of Lord Shiva. It is also an important place of worship for Hindus with a lot of temples. The place was developed during the time of the Scindia dynasty.

The Chattris of Scindia dynasty are best examples of medieval Hindu architecture. These are situated at Amarkantak, a few kilometres away from Gwalior city. Chhatris basically mean royal tombs.
