Saundatti, Belgaum

Saundatti is a celebrated pilgrimage and one of the oldest towns in Belgaum district of Karnataka. It is one of the prominent pilgrimage centres in Karnataka and is popular for the wonderful ancient Yellamma Temple dedicated to Goddess Renuka, also called as Yellamma. There are several other ancient temples at Saundatti.

The fort, built in 1734 by Jayagauda Desai, is an important attraction here. Yellamma Temple is built in the Chalukyan and Rashtrakuta styles of architecture and the carvings indicate Jain architecture.

The Yellamma Devi Fair celebrated here is also renowned. Being the original capital of Rattas, the place also has two Jain basadis dating back to Ratta times.
