Kittur Fort, Belgaum

Kittur, historically as Kittoor, is a taluk in Belgaum district which is best known for the heroic resistance of its queen, Kittur Chennamma, who lead an armed rebellion against the British East India Company in 1824. Rani fought the British, subsequently killing Commissioner of Dharwad, until the Kittur army was defeated.

Rani Chennamma was the first Indian female ruler to lead an armed rebellion against the East India Company and became a legend henceforth. Kittur Fort is in ruins and a visit to the archaeological museum here will take you down through the curtains of time to her time of glory! Another attraction here is the natural park dedicated to her.
