Uttar Pradesh Tourism – The Historical Town of Bithoor

Located about 22 km from Kanpur, lies the scenic and beautiful town of Bithoor on the banks of the River Ganges.

Far from the madding crowd of Kanpur, Bithoor provides the much needed solace to rejuvenate and relax. It is a major pilgrimage centre for the Hindus and also enjoys great historical significance.

A visit to Bithoor is not just a trip down the lanes of history but also a beautiful, scenic spot where you can enjoy the various aspects of nature's beauty such as enjoying tranquil strolls among the religious temples or taking a relaxing boat ride along the river.

Brahmavart Ghat

The Brahmavart ghat is a must visit place in Bithoor and is located along the banks of the river Ganga. This tranquil spot has a great religious and historical significance.

According to Hindu mythology, Lord Brahma had chosen Bithoor as his abode and it was here that he created the first man.

The place which marked this event came to be known as Brahmavarta or the seat of Brahma. Later, Lord Brahma also installed a Shivling which is till today worshipped as Brahmeshwar Mahadeva at this ghat.

Patthar Ghat

Patthar ghat is one of the most beautiful ghats in India. The ghat represents stunning art and architecture. A massive Shiva temple which houses a Shivling made of Kasaauti stone is found here.

Valmiki Ashram

Valmiki Ashram is the site where Rishi Valmiki is believed to have written the timeless epic, Ramayana. It is also the place where Sita stayed after her exile and gave birth to her twins Lav and Kush.

It was here that they spent their childhood and were trained for warfare and politics by the great sage. The ashram is located at a height and to reach it, you have to climb the stairs which are known as 'staircase to heaven.'

From the ashram, you can enjoy a bird's eye view of the surroundings and bask in the tranquillity of the place. It is a must visit place in Bithoor for all visitors.

Dhruva Teela

Dhruva Teela is supposed to be the spot where the child Dhruv is believed to have meditated while standing on one leg.

He performed the penance to appease Lord Vishnu who was very pleased with his single-minded devotion and granted him the divine boon, which was that he would be immortalized as a shining star in the times to come.

How to Reach Bithoor

By Air: The nearest airport is the Lucknow airport, which is about 87 km away. It is connected to all major cities like Delhi, Kolkata, Hyderabad and more.

By Train: The nearest railway station is Kalyanpur which is serviced by passenger trains. Kanpur is the nearest rail junction, which is about 22 km away.

By Road: Bithoor is well connected by road and is serviced by buses from all major cities and town of Uttar Pradesh including Kanpur, Lucknow, Agra, and Ayodhya. Public transport buses are also available from Delhi.
