Wildlife sanctuaries and national parks are some of the royal treasures of Rajasthan. Since ages, these sanctuaries have been the hub of tourist attraction for this state. Sariska Tiger Reserve, Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary and Ranthambore National Park are some of the most renowned and widely famous throughout the world.

Rajasthan harbours many other sanctuaries and national parks which are not popular yet add to the beauty of the state and enhance the aspect of tourism. Not only for the sake of wildlife, these also have attracted photographers round the globe. Housing many unique species of birds and animals, these sanctuaries and parks are now budding means of economy for Rajasthan.

Here are some of the unexplored sanctuaries and national parks of Rajasthan which you can plan on your next trip to Rajasthan.

Sita Mata Wildlife Sanctuary

The thick forest of this sanctuary has a rich biodiversity of trees, birds and animals and is one of the prime sightseeing spots of Pratapgarh. Located by the Aravalli ranges, Vindyachal Hills and Malwa Plateau, this sanctuary is easily accessible from Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and other places of Rajasthan.
Teak forms the major floral population while innumerable bird species make it wanted among bird enthusiasts. Many herbs and medicinal plants are also available here. Flying squirrel is the striking animal found here. Some temples at the vicinity can also be visited.

Darrah National Park

A part of the royal hunting grounds of Kota, this national park consists of three sanctuaries, namely, Jaswant Sagar Wildlife Sanctuary, Darrah Wildlife Sanctuary and Chambal Wildlife Sanctuary. It was established in 2004. Chinkaras and leopards are the special attraction of this place.

Sajjangarh Wildlife Sanctuary

This sanctuary in Udaipur encircles the Monsoon Palace or the Sajjan Garh Palace. Established in 1987, this sanctuary is a protected area and is walled from all sides. This place was a royal shooting ground for the kings. Tigers, nilgai, panthers are some of the reserves. Apart from bird watching, tourists can also enjoy the mesmerising Aravallis.

Desert National Park

Located in Jaisalmer, Desert National Park is a part of the ecosysyem in Thar Desert. Sand dunes around the park adds a special interest among the tourists. Variety of bird species, specially the endangered ones reside here. November to January is the ideal time to explore this national park. Among the fossils available here, dinosaur fossils are worth exploring. Jeep safari aids in the exploration.

Kumbhalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary

Situated in Rajsamand, this sanctuary encircles the Kumbhalgarh fortress. Lion safari is the main attraction of this sanctuary. Nestling across the Aravalli range, a rich diversity of wildlife is found here among which some are endangered. Birdlife in this wildlife sanctuary is also praiseworthy. Horse safari or foot tracking are some of the ways through which people can explore the sanctuary.

Mount Abu Wildlife Sanctuary

Situated by the Aravallis, this sanctuary harbours a dense forest apart from valleys and water courses. More than 112 species of plant are found in this forest. Orchids in Rajasthan are found only in this sanctuary. Bamboo forests also form an added attraction. Some rare and threatened animal species are found here. Lions, tigers and leopards are the predators found while the habitat also support sloth bears. Variety of birds amazes tourists.

Tal Chhapar Sanctuary

Situated in the Shekhawati region, this sanctuary is renowned for black bucks. It is easily accessible from Jaipur and Bikaner. Mostly covered by tropical forests and grasses, this sanctuary attracts many migratory birds. September to March is the ideal time to view these birds. Chirping of innumerable birds make the sanctuary lively. Accommodation is available inside the sanctuary which is maintained by the Forest Department.
